It was early February when I was invited for an interview at Sprinklr.
As I entered the glamorous office in Austin, Texas, I was greeted humbly by nearly every Sprinklrite there, and a chocolate lab ran toward me, tongue lapping excitedly. One week later, I was offered a six-month public relationships internship with Sprinklr’s PR department.
During my time at Sprinklr, not only did I learn the dynamics of a public relations role, but I also learned how core values drive a high-growth company toward success. This experience made me think more like a manager and less like a typical “intern.” In other words, I learned to think like a tech startup employee charged with a high level of responsibility, and I felt like a key part of the team.
I also integrated the company’s culture into my everyday activities. When I first learned the five core values that Sprinklrites follow, they seemed pretty straightforward. However, once I put these values into practice, I discovered the deeper meaning in each one.
As interns, we encounter many new challenges in the workplace, especially since we learn new business dynamics on a daily basis and are exposed to assignments we have never encountered before. We learn to be solutions-oriented and offer ideas to solve problems. We also learn that it’s important to be proactive in a fast-changing environment and to keep up with trends in the industry.
I learned to not be afraid of failure; it’s a beautiful thing. I must admit – it’s enriching to fail and learn from mistakes. Without failure in the workplace, how will we grow professionally and personally? At Sprinklr, we are taught to embrace failure and to turn it into something positive throughout the remainder of our time there.
From a marketing standpoint, interns are taught to focus on the customer. Yes, we matter as a company, but it’s our clients that matter most. We are taught to always think about how to best communicate with our audience in a way that adds value to their daily lives (rather than simply bombarding them with marketing messages).
As a PR intern, I put this into practice almost daily for each of my writing assignments: a focus on providing concise, authentic, measured, and consistent messaging.
Similar to “it’s okay,” Sprinklr interns are taught to never give up, even under highly stressful situations. As assignments got more challenging, we all learned how to effectively manage time and build systems to get the job done more quickly.
Learning how to work in teams is a key Sprinklr intern experience. This value applied to all interns who sacrificed individual success by collaborating and learning from one another with a positive attitude. Our curiosity and interest demonstrated our genuine passion in the tasks at hand. By infusing passion to our work, interns also learned the importance of setting measurable goals for an overall objective.
During my time at Sprinklr I also developed strong communication skills and project management skills, which are both central to being a successful manager. Clear, concise, and effective internal communication is especially important when you work in a company moving at the speed of a rocket ship.
My experience at Sprinklr has enhanced my managerial mindset, and I witnessed the same for other interns. We learned how to work in a fast-changing industry at a very unique and exciting time in the history of technology. Most importantly, we integrated the company’s core values into our work ethic, which is key to succeeding as a manager.
