The New Year is here, and our resolutions are fresh in our minds. While more people have resolved to be happy than anything else, some of us are definitely feeling like we want to work off the holiday “cheer” and dive into a solid new fitness regime.
For whom this is the case, exercise is the means to an end. The ultimate goal is often to be healthier, but there are so many ways of going about it. There are the small decisions like, “Do I sweat it out on a bike, or try to lift weights?” Then there’s the major choice between getting a membership at an all-purpose gym or a specialty fitness studio.
We at Sprinklr wanted to see how gyms and fitness studios compare in what they have to offer. So we leveraged over 40,000 conversations across popular social media and review sites to compare the quality of the customer experience at gyms versus fitness studios.
Fitness studios are preferred in nearly every category, and it all came down to community.
Many customers said they love being able to meet other people who like the same workouts. So if you enjoy the camaraderie of sweating with someone else, or struggle with finding motivation to exercise on your own, fitness studios are probably an excellent option for you.
If you’re someone who’s never had a problem finding inspiration to exercise, the flexibility of a gym membership (not to mention some of the alluring amenities like basketball courts, saunas, and pools) could be a fabulous alternative.
Data was collected from 1/1/14—11/30/15, and includes information from 40,000 conversations on social media and review sites for some of the largest fitness brands, including ten gyms and seven fitness studio chains. Percentages indicate the proportion of positive mentions relative to the overall conversation volume on particular topics. Value, Locker Rooms, Instruction, Ambience, and Core Services were the most frequently mentioned categories in reviews, accounting for nearly 75% of reviews.
