Just over 7 years ago, I worked in the printing industry selling catalogs, direct mailings, and other commercial print projects. It was a decent job, but we were competing with new media options that are continuing to make many printed products obsolete.
I wasn’t sure which industry I wanted to pursue next, but knew that I was looking for something with growth potential. The field of social media stuck out as a strong contender for my next career step.
Who Says Cold Emailing Won’t Get You Anywhere?
I began my new career search and soon enough, I had an interview scheduled with a social media software company. Fortunately or unfortunately, that interview never ended up taking place, but my preliminary research to prepare for it led me to Ragy Thomas, Sprinklr’s founder and CEO.
Since it was early 2012 and Sprinklr was a very small, relatively unknown company, there were only a handful of articles about the business and an even smaller number of quotes from our Founder and CEO, Ragy Thomas. However, I did find one in my research in which Ragy said, “We are building the social media management software that these large enterprise companies are going to operate on in 5 years.”
I realized he was on the verge of something big, and I wanted in.
I cold-emailed Ragy, and to my surprise he agreed to meet with me. Not only did he describe his vision, but he made me feel like it was my vision, too. At the end of our conversation, he said something that really sealed the deal for me: “If you can sell print in this day and age, then you can sell this thing we are calling Sprinklr.”
The next three weeks was a blur of excitement and activity as I quickly got started on my new career path and became the first official sales rep at Sprinklr.
From a Single Product to an Industry-Leading Platform
A lot has changed in the seven years I’ve been with Sprinklr, but most of those changes relate to growth: growth of the product, growth of the team, growth of the client roster, and growth of Sprinklr’s market position.
In under a decade, Sprinklr has established itself as a best-in-class solution for all things social. We now offer a Unified SMMS solution that’s built to handle the demands of the largest enterprise companies. It’s helped us transform thousands of businesses into customer-focused, digital-first brands.
And while our team has grown from a few dozen to more than 1,500 employees around the world, we still have that small-company mindset of treating everyone like family. When we walk around the office, we all know each other by name, and chances are that we can tell you everyone’s family’s names, too.
A Lesson in Care
So many companies want to emulate a certain level of care, but at Sprinklr, it’s a part of our DNA. Throughout my seven years here, a lot has changed for me personally; I got married, became a dad to two children, and worked my way up through a couple of promotions. But life can take some unexpected turns, too.
Recently, a serious illness left me hospitalized for a month as doctors struggled to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it. I couldn’t work, and I was scared. Through it all, Sprinklr had my back. I was supported, and encouraged to heal. That isn’t something that you’ll find at many employers, and it’s something that I’m grateful for every day.
I still can’t believe how fortunate I am to have a place here, and to have played a role in building Sprinklr up to a nearly $2 billion valuation. It’s truly surreal. The past seven years have been amazing, and I can’t wait to see what the next seven years have in store. Let’s just say, it’s an exciting time to be a Sprinklrite.
